Kyle Busch Wins NASCAR Title

Jeff Gordon’s career summed up in one word would be “success”, but that is a vast understatement of the many things he accomplished as a driver. NBCSN provided a simulcast of the race, focused on the four drivers still eligible for the championship, and post-race coverage moved exclusively to the cable network. His rainbow paint scheme caught the eye of many viewers and that earned him a lot of fans. By August, Busch eclipsed the top 30, qualifying for the Chase.
It was also fitting that Busch was the driver to deliver Toyota its first Cup title.
A wreck took Allison out of contention, leaving Kulwicki to battle Elliott for the title, with Kulwicki earning the crown by leading one more lap than Elliott did – even though Elliott won the race.
Then he hit the best stretch of his entire career, spanning from 1995-2001.
There was a strong sentimental push for Gordon to go out on top in his final race.
Kenseth was right behind Logano with five wins which included the Food City 500 at Bristol and the final race of the regular season at Richmond. “The hardest thing I’ve ever gone through”, Busch said. “I’m sure it’s been done in some sport, but I don’t think it’s ever been done in this sport”. The system has been tweaked several times and is in the second year of an elimination format that sends four drivers to Homestead to race for the title.
Busch was back in time for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway to kick the comeback in motion. That was no surprise considering his average finish was 5.7. For some perspective, Dale Earnhardt was 29 before he ran his first full NASCAR Cup season. After Sunday’s race, Busch did interviews and took photos until 2 a.m. Monday before he finally took a little breather. A few things that fueled his decision were the fact that he had two small children growing up and he wanted to be more involved in their lives. That was back when everyone hated him.
It was a red letter day for NASCAR as Jeff Gordon bowed out of the sport he’s practically owned since joining, and the Miami crowd payed their due respects. Today was a flawless day but we came up a little bit short with the race. But none was more precious than when he saw his mom approaching his motorhome Sunday morning.
Then, he faced his best chance to get a win during the season.
Once in the 10-race playoff, Busch survived the first three rounds by being consistently good.

In Saturday’s Xfinity Series season finale, Chris Buescher finished 11th to win his first championship and fifth title for his Roush Fenway Racing team. Gordon led nine laps early in the race but fell back. He capped off an incredible career that night in Miami. In the end, the adjustments were never quite enough.
The rain came early, delaying the race for nearly two hours.
However, it wasn’t just his racing that made Sonoma a special place, it was his impact.
NASCAR presented Gordon with a tribute video during the pre-race drivers’ meeting and then everyone in the room gave him a standing ovation. His hometown is Pittsboro, Indiana, which created a sense of homecoming whenever he was around. Team owner Rick Hendrick plans to keep Gordon busy even with him out of the auto. From 1992-1999, he worked with the legendary Ray Evernham, who was a Hall of Fame candidate this past year.
But when he stopped winning with such frequency and endured some setbacks off the track, the general feeling toward Gordon shifted.
From 2000-2005, Gordon had Robbie Loomis. He was aware of Harvick, who was fourth on the restart and right behind him. From 2006-2010, Steve Letarte was Gordon’s crew chief.
