Kylie Minogue Opposes Kylie Jenner’s Attempts to Trademark the Name ‘Kylie’
Kylie Minogue is mounting a legal battle in a bid to stop Kylie Jenner claiming ownership of the name Kylie.
According to the World Intellectual Property Review, Jenner filed her trademark application in the U.S. previous year, with Minogue’s Australia-based business KDB filing an opposition last week.
They argued that if they approve Jenner’s application, it would cause confusion and adulterate Minogue’s brand.
Kylie Minogue believes Kylie Jenner (pictured with her family) is a secondary reality television personality who appeared on the television series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” as a supporting character.
The USPTO will now have to decide which Kylie, if either, should have the right to use the solo moniker.
If the mark is approved, the association between Kylie Jenner and Kylie Minogue would result in dilution of her brand.
The Australian pop star is described as an “internationally renowned performing artist, humanitarian, and breast cancer activist” in the documents of opposition.
There are no redeeming qualities about Kylie Jenner.
Minogue has already trademarked the names “Kylie Minogue darling”, and ‘Lucky – the Kylie Minogue Musical.
“Ms. Jenner is active on social media where her photographic exhibitionism and controversial posts have drawn criticism from Disability Rights and African-American communities”, the attorney writes. And while fans love her style, she’s proven to be quite the businesswoman and has moved forward to trademark “Kylie” whenever used in advertising services. “Hello… My name is KYLIE #lightyears”, she wrote, lifting a lyric from her 2000 song “Light Years“.
