La. Gov. Bobby Jindal Says Mayors of Sanctuary Cities Should Be ‘Criminally
“Mayor Curtatone said that Gov. Jindal was ‘igniting a mob” with his “offensive” comments, and that what America really needs is “bold smart leadership”. Jindal discussed the plan this morning with the Boston Herald, apparently angering Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone, a Democrat who accused Jindal of fearmongering and compared the governor to a pair of fictional 1960s TV dimwits: Gomer Pyle and Barney Fife: “Come and get me”, Curtatone charged in a Boston Herald Radio interview, shortly after Jindal took to the station airwaves to detail his proposal.
The Jindal campaign responded with a statement: “The mayor has set up a safe haven for illegal immigrants in his city and his laissez-faire attitude is flat out risky”.
Still, Curtatone said the case that touched off the current debate on sanctuary cities, the killing July 1 of a 32-year-old women in San Francisco, allegedly by a man deported five times and released by city officials despite a request to hold him by federal immigration officials, is a “terrible tragedy”.
Bobby Jindal address the crowd as he announces his candidacy for President in Kenner, La., Wednesday, June 24, 2015.
“If he promises to fix the immigration system maybe we should give him a chance to be president”, Rosenberg said of Jindal.
“I’d also make them civilly liable so that families, victim’s families could sue”.
Recent polls have suggested that Jindal is ranked fourth in Iowa and has been attracting quite a sizable crowd in this State.
The plan calls first for Congress to “criminalize” sanctuary cities existing by “making city officials that enact those policies as an accessory to the crimes committed by the illegal aliens those policies enabled”. Other cities also allow immigrants in the US illegally to avoid deportation by serving jail time or paying fines if they are caught committing low-level crimes.
The Louisiana Republican insisted that efforts to “defund” sanctuary cities would merely serve as a tool for criticism, as it would hurt disadvantaged citizens.
“This would have been a prime opportunity for the governor to appeared along side the likes of Jeb Bush, Donald Trump, Marco Rubio and perhaps score a few points”, Stockley said. Not everyone agrees with Jindal’s bill.
The mayor delivered a powerful message regarding Jindal as an individual saying, “We shouldn’t lower ourselves to the lowest common denominator, and that’s the brain of … Come and get me, I’m right here”.
