LA Kings reacquire Rob Scuderi from Chicago for Ehrhoff
A day after the Blackhawks traded for Andrew Ladd, they kept making moves before Monday’s trade deadline and dealt defenseman Rob Scuderi to the Kings for defenseman Christian Ehrhoff. Both defensemen were buried in the AHL prior to the trade.
But Scuderi left the Kings as a free agent in 2013, taking a four-year, $13.5 million contract to return to Pittsburgh, which drafted him in 1998. Scuderi played over 20 minutes a night during his tenure with the Kings and was trusted by Kings head coach Darryl Sutter. He didn’t register a single point with Chicago and averaged just 11:06 of ice time with them. Since being waived, he’s played three games for AHL Rockford. He will come out of the AHL and join the Kings’ NHL roster.
Ehrhoff, 33, had 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 40 games with Los Angeles this season. Fittingly enough, so have the Chicago Blackhawks.
The trade has been made official. He’s seriously declined from his days as an acceptable defensive defenseman and is now a big on-ice liability-hence the Penguins and Blackhawks shipping him off for nothing this year.
The Blackhawks reportedly also agreed to pay some of the remaining salary owed to Scuderi.
