‘La La Land’ wins six awards at 89th Oscar Academy Awards
IBTimesUK brings you the full list of 2017 Academy Award winners as they are announced, live from the Dolby Theatre. To Doug Wald who stood by me all these years, Holly and Michelle and Craig and P.J. And Greta and Bob Cooper, thank you so much. That envelope, he said, “said “Emma Stone, La La Land'”. I used to think it was for our security, it’s really for the briefcase [laughs]. A sheepish Warren Beatty tried to explain that he had been given the wrong envelope.
Emma got Best Actress at both.
On playing Mia, Stone said backstage, “I’ve her for 13 years”. “That’s why I looked at Faye, and at you”. “I wasn’t trying to be amusing”.
Stone took the opportunity to show her support for women’s rights by rocking a gold Planned Parenthood pin on her left shoulder (Dakota Johnson sported the same pin on her Gucci clutch, as well). She added, “I also was holding my best actress in a leading role card [from the envelope] that entire time”, she noted, and wondered exactly why the mistake was made. Now the two pairs of friends have reunited on the biggest night of the Awards Season calendar, at the Oscars. Prior to La La Land, you could say she had the ideal warm-up: Taking over for Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles in the 2014-15 run of Cabaret, which marked Stone’s Broadway debut. “It is such an incredible film”.
As well as best picture and best director nominations for Barry Jenkins, Moonlight scores a nomination for best supporting actor for Mahershala Ali. The beauty guru revealed all of the products she used to create Emma’s classic Hollywood glamour inspired make-up look on Instagram – and we want it all!
The mistake was said to have been the result of a card mix-up and was only realised halfway through La La Land producer Jordan Horowitz’s acceptance speech.
“It was a hard situation, there’s no doubt about that”, Horowitz told ET on the red carpet of the post-Oscars Governors Ball.
In case you don’t remember, Gosling and Timberlake got their start on the variety television series in the early ’90s, showcasing their acting and singing chops with hilariously bad wardrobes and ever-so-’90s hairstyles. Do you think they’ll share tips about keeping their statuettes shiny?
