Labor gave Gordon too much power: LNP
The Queensland premier has accused the Liberal National party opposition of having double standards amid the Billy Gordon controversy.
Ms Trad answered questions alongside Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Monday after another woman claimed she had received explicit photos from the Cook MP.
The LNP lost its second attempt to “void” the Cook MPs vote on Tuesday, when Mr Wellington sided with Labor and Mr Gordon overnight, to defeat the Opposition’s motion to give party leaders the opportunity to “reject” an MPs vote.
‘This is as much about the government’s actions as it is about the actions of the Member for Cook, ‘ Mr Langbroek said.
Education Minister Kate Jones labelled Mr Langbroek’s speech “a disgrace” and said the opposition leadership’s focus on Mr Gordon indicated they had no ideas.
Aurukun’s mayor says MP Billy Gordon should resign if it’s proven he sent explicit images to women.
“I think that your comments after casting the deciding vote last night also should be explained to this House and the people of Queensland”, he said amid howls of disgust from the government benches.
She implied the LNP leaders were trying to force a by-election in Mr Gordon’s seat because they were concerned about a possible spill by opposition education spokesman Tim Mander.
“It’s very interesting that the University of Queensland policy and practice students are here today [in the public gallery] because you won’t see the opposition talk about anything to do with policy or anything to do with practice”.
Ms Palaszczuk called for him quit earlier this year when he was under investigation over domestic violence allegations, but she’s toned down her language amid a sexting scandal involving the MP, whose support she depends on to hold power in the hung parliament. “These matters have been extensively dealt with”.
