Labourers Refuse Bribe Of Rs 100, Cops Beat Two To Death
As Mainpuri police launched a massive manhunt for the six police personnel wanted in connection with the brutal killing of two labourers at a check post on Friday over denial of a bribe of Rs 100, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh’s borough is seething with anger over the recent spurt in violent crimes in the district.
The labourers later thrashed up the policemen who beat the workers to death.
Two labourers- Dileep Yadav, 22 and Pankaj Yadav, 24- were traveling on a tractor-trolley carrying stones and bricks to Kosma village when they were stopped at a police check-point on Friday.
The policemen allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 100 for letting the truck go, but when the driver, Vinesh, refused, an altercation ensued. Senior officials had to rush at the spot after which additional forces were moved in from other districts to control the situation. Sources said the two labourers used to sell cheap bricks, which they brought from Firozabad in Mainpuri.
Devranjan Verma, the SP of Mainpuri, told ANI “We are probing and registering an FIR, action will be taken against the culprits”.
The post-mortem report contradicted earlier reports that said the two men died after they jumped into a pond to escape from policemen who demanded a bribe and threatened to lodge false cases against the duo if the money wasn’t paid. Dileep and Pankaj were however, caught by the police and their bodies were discovered in a nearby pond at about 10.30 am, according to reports. But the villagers refused to accept the claim, saying the pond was not very deep and no one could drown in it. “They brutally beat us”, said a labourer named Birbal.
