Lady Gaga, Alicia Vikander respond to Golden Globe noms
The nominees for best motion picture drama: “Carol, ” “Mad Max: Fury Road, ” “The Revenant, ” “Room”, and “Spotlight”.
For the first time ever, Netflix has been nominated for the most Golden Globes and more than every other network, streaming service, and premium cable network, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly.
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) heaped nominations on “Trumbo”, about the 1947 Hollywood blacklist, but left out presumed Oscar front-runners “Joy”, “The Martian”, Quentin Tarantino’s Western “The Hateful Eight” and football head injury movie “Concussion”. Netflix even locked in a film nomination this year for “Beasts of No Nation” actor Idris Elba.
Veteran actress Charlotte Rampling has been a big part of the best actress conversation for her work in the affecting marital drama “45 Years”, but was locked out of the best actress, drama category, possibly because Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett were both nominated as leads in “Carol”. The third nom for that film, by the way, was for Ridley Scott as Best Director – Motion Picture. Apparently displaced was Johnny Depp’s chilly Whitey Bulger in “Black Mass”.
A number of performers came away with multiple nods.
The nominations (via Variety) went to Orange is the New Black (2), Narcos (2), House of Cards, Grace & Frankie, Bloodline and Master of None. Perhaps the biggest surprise of all was the Best Comedy nod for Hulu original series “Casual”, which made my 2015 top ten list and received positive reviews but was on no one’s awards radar.
– “I think I got about 15,000 text messages”. Delineating drama and comedy (or musical) is a task unique to the Golden Globes, which honor films and lead performances for both.
AHS fans were barraged with dark, enticing promos for months leading up to the show’s premiere, only to be smacked in the face with a distinct lack of what they were promised.
The nominees for best animated feature film are: “Anomalisa”, “Inside Out”, “The Good Dinosaur”, “The Peanuts Movie” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie”. “But it’s lovely company to be in”. Al Pacino (“Danny Collins”), Maggie Smith (“The Lady in the Van”), Lily Tomlin (“Grandma”), Jane Fonda (“Youth”) and Helen Mirren (“Trumbo”) all earned nods. Sylvester Stallone earned a well-deserved supporting nod for “Creed”, but star Michael B. Jordan was snubbed. Bummer. Happy for Michael Shannon (“99 Homes”).
“I woke up and saw my phone was sort of filled with things and I thought, ‘Oh maybe something good happened, ‘” she said. “Like it just vibrates and makes all kinds of noises”.
– “Maybe it will help me get paid a little better. And it was very good”.
“The definition of TV has really changed over the last few years-it’s all about bringing customers exactly what they want to watch, when and how they want to watch it”, Price told the Times by email. With three nominations each, “American Crime”, “Fargo”, “Mr. Robot”, “Outlander”, “Transparent” and “Wolf Hall” stand at the same spot.
The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will take place January 10, 2016.
