Lady Gaga drops shocking new video, Til It Happens To You
In December, Gaga went public with her rape experience, revealing she had been attacked by a record producer at the age of 19. But, in fact, she herself doesn’t even appear in it. Til It Happens To You was created in association with the documentary The Hunting Ground, aimed at raising awareness of sexual violence on American college campuses.
In the video, an enigmatic figure leads viewers through the halls of a standard college dormitory as we see the animalistic, manipulative crimes against humanity unravel in black and white. Catherine Hardwicke, best known for her work with “Twilight“, directed the video.
A new Lady Gaga music video that was just released is already trending online with over 7 million views.
Lady Gaga dedicated it to victims of sexual assault all over the world.
She explained: “I don’t know what I was thinking”.
“Believing survivors is radical”, Pino said at her Saint Mary’s talk. I’ve never had something like this happen with one of my songs, though.
Lady Gaga tweeted that a portion of proceeds from sales of the song will be donated to organisations which support victims. While men do exit the dorm at the conclusion with the survivors chronicled throughout the video, it is unclear whether some of these men are meant to represent survivors or supporters. The staggering statistic that one in five female college students will be sexually assaulted during their four years on campus flashes across screen, followed by the number for the National Sexual Assault Hotline, ending the music video with a resource and message we all need to hear.
