Lady Gaga’s Bowie tribute
On the other hand, Vox vehemently disagreed, writing that “her kinetic energy made the performance feel more like “Rocky Horror Picture Show” or “Monster Mash” than a tribute to Bowie”. And there’s the great #nilerogers…David Bowie lives. Gaga sang and danced to a medley of Bowie’s 70’s and 80’s songs including “Space Oddity” and “Under Pressure”. Lady Gaga delivered a powerful performance in memory of late music legend David Bowie at the Grammys on Monday – but not everyone was pleased. “Damn it! What IS that word!?”, Jones tweeted.
Gaga’s nine-minute tribute to Bowie, which formed the centrepiece of yesterday’s ceremony, was widely praised.
Twitter user Lady Teapots said it was “cruel and mean spirited to attack Lady Gaga who gave her all to honour and entertain”.
As the performance progressed, Lady Gaga disappeared behind a screen and part of the performance was conducted with her as a projection on a screen, with some pretty weird stuff happening. “She was in it, man!”
Speaking to Mashable before she took to the stage, Gaga explained: “The first thing that I did was just put together my own mixtape of my favourite David Bowie songs”. According to a source from Hollywood Life, the American singer handled the criticism with grace.
Gaga also admitted to getting David Bowie’s face tattooed on her left side last Saturday to prove her respect for him. In 2008, she thanked Bowie “for inspiration” in the liner notes of her debut album The Fame.
She was also seen breaking down while getting her makeup done for last night’s show. Watch the full performance if you missed it right here!
