The largest entry will be a float sponsored by Hospitality Health Emergency Room, which opened last April at the corner of Old Jacksonville Highway and Loop 323. “They do so much for us”. Those items will be removed and taken to the Bayshore Library for pick-up after the event. The street will be closed to traffic from Peninsula Drive to Buenos Aires Street. He’s the co-chair for the event, Gibson explained, and is helping direct the parade, which will feature close to 3,000 people marching, piloting, and riding vehicles and floats. “Home Alone”? “Miracle on 34th Street”?
With the theme, “A Candy Land Christmas”, spectators can expect to see plenty of red-and-white-stripped confectionery on parade this Saturday, promised organizer Dede Rossi.
Lindsay Leach, special events coordinator for Spotsylvania County Parks & Recreation, said the 82 entries are expected to reignite nostalgia through their interpretation of Christmas classics.
Those interested in participating in the nighttime parade should submit an application to the Tahlequah Area Chamber of Commerce before Friday, Dec. 2.
Leach encourages movie buffs and Christmas lovers alike to attend the parade. Collections will be taken in grocery carts under the tree beside the courthouse from 10 a.m. until the parade concludes.
Before the Parade, Boy Scout Troop 149 invites the community to its annual pancake breakfast at Friendship Presbyterian Church while Watkinsville First Christian Church offers people a chicken mull luncheon after the parade. Santa will pose for pictures at Stafford Medical Pavillion. Downtown Vision will provide personalized paper, envelopes and will mail the letters to the North Pole.
