Lagging in fundraising, Trump calls on GOP for support
Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has a huge advantage in campaign funds over Republican rival Donald Trump, figures show.
With spending that outpaced inflows, his campaign began June with just US$1.29 million in cash, well-behind Clinton’s US$42 million war chest.
The Clinton campaign has reserved about $30 million in air-time in swing states to describe her story and to define Mr. Trump. “I spent $55 million of my own money to win the primaries-55”.
Those numbers – weak for a Congressional campaign, let alone a run at the White House – have put Trump and the Republican Party at an extraordinary financial disadvantage heading into the general election. In late May, Trump set up two joint fundraising committees with the RNC, a move that was supposed to help him and the party tap into a gusher of cash.
Tuesday is the first full day the Trump campaign will spend without Lewandowski at the helm following a record-setting primary season. “The campaign’s going to pick up the speed”, Bennett said. When asked about who has higher moral standards, 47 percent answer Clinton and 36 percent say Trump. It’s not clear how much difference his departure will make, or whether a change in style will change Trump’s results.
“This is the first fundraising email I have ever sent on behalf of my campaign”, Trump wrote. “If I don’t have great support, I’ll go a different route”.
