LaGuardia Terminal C outage causes dozens of cancellations
The first departures began around 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Delta said about 120 flights were canceled and that delays averaged about 3 hours.
“Due to current power outages affecting airlines operating in Terminal C, Parking Lots 4 and 5, flight disruptions may result”, LaGaurdia Airport said in an alert posted to its website.
Delta has the largest share of passengers at LaGuardia, at 22 percent for the 12 months ended in April, according to the U.S. Transportation Department.
The outage also affected the jet bridges that lead from the terminal to the airplane.
Amtrak power problems are causing some delays for Amtrak and NJ Transit riders.
Delta Air Lines and US Airways operate out of Terminal C. Flights have not resumed, but Coleman said Delta expected its communication system to be back sometime shortly after 9 a.m. A contractor accidentally cut through two electrical feeder cables serving portions of Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, delaying flights.
