Lahm unsure over Muller future
Manchester United face the prospect of going into the new season with Wayne Rooney as their main striker, backed up by James Wilson and Javier Hernandez – as their efforts to land a big money signing keep getting dashed in Germany.
But United authorities have clearly denied the claims that they have made a £70 million bid for Thomas Muller, according to sources.
Van Gaal is said to be intent on reuniting with his protégé at Old Trafford though and it can now be revealed that the Dutchman has advised the Red Devils to make an improved bid of around €100million for Muller.
The newspaper say that the 25-year-old’s interest in Man United could be due to Muller’s frosty relationship with Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.
Muller’s versatility has made him a feared attacker across Europe and his tally of 20 goals across the past three Champions League campaigns is perhaps evidence of just how strong a weapon the Bayern Munich man has become at the highest level.
Louis van Gaal’s side are hopeful an offer of £55.7m would be sufficient to tempt Bayern Munich into selling (via the Guardian). This included 21 goals and 18 assists in 48 games last season.
They report that manager Louis van Gaal has personally been lobbying chief executive Ed Woodward to return with an improved bid for the German worldwide, even during the ongoing USA tour, and United are claimed to be ready to offer a five-year deal to Muller.
