Lake Effect Snow Warning In Effect Until Saturday Morning
The flurries and snow showers will subside Friday night. Temperatures will be in the lower 30s with southeast winds up to 10 miles per hour.
Saturday starts out quietly, however snow is expected to assemble with a weak weather system Saturday night.
Meanwhile, in southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties, it will be a much different story.
Sunday night: A 20 percent chance of snow after 1 a.m., low around 26.
Lake Effect Snow advisories and warnings are in effect for those areas. Forecasters also say the ground is simply too warm to allow snow to accumulate.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is possible Friday through Tuesday in East Idaho, with several inches forecast in many areas on New Year’s Day. North northwest winds up to 16 miles per hour will shift to the west southwest after midnight.
Less than an inch of new snow is forecast. Elevated areas still have a chance for some passing snow showers through the day today. Wind chill values as low as zero are possible. Today’s high will be near 43, with a southeast wind 5 to 11 miles per hour, and gusts as high as 23 miles per hour.
The region may only see a brief period of dry weather, as rain is expected again Tuesday, with the NWS projecting a 50 percent chance of showers January 3.
“Deep low pressure will track from the ME coast into eastern Canada today”, the National Weather Service says.
