Lake Sammamish State Park admission free for National Public Lands Day
Saturday has been designated as National Public Lands Day, and volunteers will be gathering at John James Audubon State Park to tackle some projects.
The free day is in recognition of the 22nd anniversary of National Public Lands Day – the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands.
The Nashville District has day use areas at Lake Barkley, Cheatham Lake, Old Hickory Lake, J. Percy Priest Lake, Cordell Hull Lake, Center Hill Lake, Dale Hollow Lake, Lake Cumberland, Laurel River Lake and Martins Fork Lake. “I encourage all Americans to spend some time volunteering or enjoying your national parks and public lands on Saturday”.
The Discover Pass is still required to access lands managed by WDFW and DNR on these days. The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the USDA’s Forest Service also have all declared Saturday as a fee-free day. Visitors can look forward to one more fee-free day this calendar year on November 11 in celebration of Veteran’s Day. Since the first NPLD, the event has grown by leaps and bounds.
On national forests, grasslands and prairies, almost 110,000 volunteers and service members contributed 4.6 million hours on critical projects past year.
