Lakeisha Holloway, 24, Identified as Suspect in Deadly Las Vegas Crash
Lombardo put the number of injured at 35 and said three people remained in critical condition.
One of the injured is a 1-year-old child, reports CBS Las Vegas affiliate KLAS-TV.
Of the more than 30 injured, three are in critical condition, suffering from head injuries, Mr Lombardo said. Holloway’s 3-year-old toddler was in the vehicle, but was not injured. She may face additional charges, including multiple counts of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon, child abuse and neglect and leaving the scene of an accident.
Holloway was booked into the Clark County Detention Center early Monday morning on charges of open murder, child abuse/neglect and failure to stop at a scene involving a death or injury.
Zimmerman said police are reviewing video from casino-hotel surveillance cameras.
“She went off the street and off the sidewalk at least two times”, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Captain Dan McGrath said. They said they believe the crash was “an intentional act”, and was not terror-related.
Authorities have said the individual killed was a woman from Arizona. The suburban Phoenix woman was visiting Las Vegas with her husband, the coroner said.
The students are members of Pacific’s men’s wrestling team, which was in Las Vegas to compete in the Wartburg Desert Duals on Monday.
CBC/Radio-Canada confirmed with a UMC spokesperson that at least five taken there were Canadian.
The young mother arrived in Las Vegas about a week ago, officials said she told police.
“We have determined that this is an intentional act”, Las Vegas Deputy Police Chief Brett Zimmerman said of the crash.
“At first, I thought it was a movie shoot”, he said.
Just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a woman heading north on Las Vegas Boulevard drove a 1996 Oldsmobile four-door sedan onto the sidewalk in front of the escalators leading into the Miracle Mile Shops at the Planet Hollywood Resort. He said the driver then swerved to avoid a truck before accelerating back onto the footpath.
After the crash, she parked at a casino a few blocks away, told a parking attendant that she had run down people and asked the valet to call 911, Lombardo said. “By the time I looked over to the right, all you could see was [her] driving away and people were bouncing off the front of the auto, you can hear it”, Nassar told the affiliate. “But then I saw some people fly in the air”.
The city’s famed Strip has been closed and sealed off as police investigate. Joel Ortega said it made them remember how their neighborhood was disrupted after the December 2 mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, near their home.
Holloway is accused of intentionally driving up onto a sidewalk near Harmon Avenue.
Cochrane said he couldn’t understand why the vehicle went into the crowd a second time. Four people were treated at the scene and released.
