Lakers (2-12) vs Warriors (16-0)
“I’m not really anxious about it, honestly”, said Bryant of his shooting.
He has handled the entire situation in Los Angeles the wrong way and doesn’t realize how wrong he is by sticking with Kobe Bryant as his starting shooting guard/small forward and focal point of the offense.
Bryant, slowed by age and past injuries, has looked like a shadow of his former self this year and that was never more apparent then against Golden State who blasted the Lakers to improve to a record 16-0.
“The one thing Jimmy and Mitch told me when I took the job, is that it’s going to take a few years”. “My shooting will be better, we’ll be better”. I could have made 80 tonight but it wouldn’t have made a big difference. Right now, they’re playing like the best team in National Basketball Association history-easily besting the 95-96 Bulls in point differential, points per game, and points allowed. We’d be what, 3-11? The Lakers are sitting at a woeful 2-12 at the bottom of the conference and Kobe can not do anything about it. But I definitely know I’m capable.
“In all honesty, it was tough, the shots that I take, pullup shots and jumpers and contested jumpers – those are tough shots to hit at 27”, Bryant said Tuesday. “I think that’s probably what we learned with Phil. Phil used to like to keep a little turmoil going around, because it could give guys an edge, and you constantly need an edge, you play better with an edge in this league”. I get it, it’s Kobe, but there’s a tipping point to every scale. When Kobe Bryant is given free reign to use up 28.5% of the team’s possessions while tying the lowest assist per-100 possessions he’s averaged since his third season in the league, you are going to have a passing problem. They will play three sets of back-to-back games on the trip, meaning Scott might have to figure out when to sit Bryant.
“You have to learn by experience”, Russell said, “and learn by watching”.
Scott was asked if he would reduce Bryant’s playing time.
“A streak like that in general is always a huge accomplishment”, said Warriors star point guard, Stephen Curry, postgame.
The Warriors didn’t get the win without Harrison Barnes suffering a sprained left ankle in the third that forced him to helped off the floor.
