Lakers nab top reserve Williams in free agent chase
The Lakers signed the reigning National Basketball Association Sixth Man of the Year, Lou Williams.
The terms of his contract with Los Angeles are still a work in progress due to other pending deals.
According to Bleacher Report, the Lakers will absorb the ex- Indiana Pacers big man Roy Hibbert’s contract. Each of these transactions will become official once the National Basketball Association Moratorium Period ends July 9. He averaged a career-high 15.5 points in 25.2 minutes while playing in 80 games for the Toronto Raptors last season. He has also proven to be a durable player over the last three years missing just one game over that span, which occurred during the 2012-13 season.
Bass had most of his success in his 10-year career while with the Boston Celtics.
One thing that Lakers fans might want to watch out for are games where the team struggles to hit shots. He is also a decent rebounder and defender at his position. While mostly off the bench last season, Bass averaged 10.6 PPG and 4.9 APG.
The Lakers are using the off-season to quickly rebuild their team for the 2015-16 season. The question is with these moves: Are the Lakers back as playoff contention.
The Lakers missed out on the more prominent free agents, such as LaMarcus Aldridge (to the San Antonio Spurs), Greg Monroe (to the Milwaukee Bucks) and Kevin Love (to the Cleveland Cavaliers). The team’s front office has been reported to be exploring trade options for Young, Robert Sacre, and Ryan Kelly in order to make space for their new additions.
As noted by Yahoo Sports, the Lakers could send a player to the Pacers along with a second-round pick as compensation for Hibbert and his $15.5 million salary for next season.
All in all, this gives the appearance that Los Angeles may have more moves up their sleeves. He was a reporter for the award-winning newspaper, The Daily Sundial, at California State University, Northridge.
