Lakers reportedly are considering signing Metta World Peace
Sports confirms that talks between the Lakers and World Peace’s representatives have already taken place. “But more realistically, Los Angeles will finish in the 35 win range, Kobe Bryant will declare that he is coming back for another season and demand $25 million, and they will give their pick to Philadelphia, which will end up being 6’10” Swiss Army Knife Ben Simmons because, once again, life and basketball are not fair.
He stated on Twitter that “Lakers are seriously considering signing free agent Metta World Peace, league sources tell Yahoo Sports”.
In addition, Wojnarowski shares there are varying degrees of interest within the organization about bringing him back. Woj says the Artist Formerly Known as Artest has been training in the team’s practice facilities this summer, playing against some of the team’s players. Will 20 minutes of Metta World Peace help the Lakers be not horribly bad?
World Peace played for the Lakers from 2009 to 2013 before being amnestied and claimed by the New York Knicks. Before that, though, he played four strong seasons for the Los Angeles Lakers. In 29 games and one start, he put up 4.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game before having his contract bought out and waived.
Over the span of his 17-year career, World Peace has averaged 13.8 points per game on 41.7 per cent shooting.
Roy Hibbert, who joined the Lakers in the offseason, recently told ESPN that when World Peace praised his sports psychologist after winning the 2010 title, “it kind of opened the doors to make it somewhat okay”.
