Lakers win in Wall vs. Ball matchup after Twitter trash-talk
Lonzo Ball and the Los Angeles Lakers had the last word on John Wall and visiting Washington after days of National Basketball Association trash talk, prevailing 102-99 in overtime on Wednesday.
As it turns out, LaVar was right, the Lakers picked up a 102-99 victory over the previously unbeaten Wizards.
“Our guys were more locked in tonight”, Walton said. Then Julius Randle blocked Wall on the other end and got a dunk in the next Lakers possession. He followed that up in overtime with a layup tying the game at 94 while also dishing out assists on 3-pointers from Kyle Kuzma and a go-ahead bucket from Caldwell-Pope.
After the win, questions still remained about just how much the elder Ball’s nature will affect his son’s career moving forward. [Gortat] said what he said about me. “Because Lonzo ain’t losing again!” The 19-year-old went 2-for-11, missing all five of his three-point attempts. The rookie point guard would dish out 10 assists and secure eight rebounds.
Pistons guard Tobias Harris tallied his second 30-point game of the season as he finished with 34 points, four rebounds and two steals in Detroit’s 122-101 win over the Timberwolves.
In their overtime win against the Wizards on Wednesday, Ball successfully limited Wall to scoring only one basket in the fourth quarter and overtime period.
“Washington coming in here Wednesday?”
Wall came away impressed with Ball.
“We just have to go and compete”, Ingram said of his good friend.
“I told you so”, LaVar Ball told ESPN.com .
Former Arkansas guard Patrick Beverley turned Ball’s debut into a disaster, holding him to just 3 points on 1-for-6 shooting, bringing an element of physicality that the slender Ball clearly wasn’t ready for. “He’s trying to will that stuff in”.
He was responding to comments by Ball’s father LaVar who warned the Wizards to beware as his son was not going to allow the Lakers to lose twice in succession. Otto Porter Jr. (12 points) fouled out. Washington C Ian Mahinmi sustained a sprained left ankle late in the first half and did not return. He grabbed 16 assists and 10 rebounds.
