Lalit Modi back in Rajasthan cricket fold
Embattled Lalit Modi has been reinstated as president of Rajasthan Cricket Association.
“In this scenario, Lalit Modi remains the president”.
With decks cleared for him to continue as president of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) following rival Amin pathan’s withdrawal of “No Confidence Motion”, former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi in a series of tweets spoke about making the state association “transparent”.
RCA vice-president Pathan withdrew the motion before retired Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra just after nine months when he had ousted Modi by way of a no-confidence motion.
It is learnt that Pathan group had allegedly resorted to muscle power to take control of the RCA office.
According to sources, it is learnt that fear of failing prompted Pathan faction to backtrack and save face by claiming that they have withdrawn the motion in “interest of game”. The catalyst for this move however came in 2013, when the national cricketing body discharged Modi from its board, for his role and involvement in contravening the regulations and stipulations of the BCCI. The BCCI will not pay any heed to Modi’s return after Board led by former President N Srinivasan suspended Rajasthan for electing the banned Modi as its president.
“Cricket had stopped in the districts and players were suffering because of that”. Plus, we couldn’t get the required numbers. “So we chose to withdraw our motion in the interest of cricket”. Modi promptly went to court and continues to fight the BCCI.
This could well be the mother of all compromises, as Pathan, who had once vowed never to work with Modi, said on Tuesday that he was ready to do so “for the sake of cricket”.
