Lamar Odom, Caitlyn Jenner, Ronda Rousey Top 2015 Google Searches
At the end of every year, Google compiles its own best-of list, pulling together the hard data from its ubiquitous search engine.
This year was one of triumph and tragedy, at least according to Google Search.
Here is the rest of Google’s top trending searches of 2015.
Globally, the most popular searches by far were those regarding the November terrorist attacks in Paris, with over 897 million searches about the attacks that shocked France and the world. Unsurprisingly, Adele is top of the pile for Trending Hits and Trending Music Acts, given that she smashed several records this year on the back of her lead single, “Hello”, and hit album, 25.
The overview of the year’s biggest trends curated by Google also includes Star Wars that took over the spotlight in the Internet in December, the Rugby World Cup in September and October, and the Federation Internationale de Football Association scam which was trending since April.
After searching for specific individuals, people liked looking up natural events such as Hurricane Joaquin and the Nepal quake, the latter garnering over 85 million searches.
The lists, which span across different categories also have classifications for a lot of countries (Zimbabwean searches weren’t listed there, unfortunately) give an interesting picture of the things that piqued people’s attention throughout the year. The top ten trends was completed by summer blockbuster Jurassic World, the results of the General Election and French magazine Charlie Hebdo – the scene of a separate Paris terror attack in January.
“We define the trending queries as the searches that had the highest spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2015 as compared to 2014”, says a Google spokesperson.
In the United States, Odom topped the list followed by “Jurassic World”, “American Sniper”, Caitlyn Jenner, and Ronda Rousey.
