Lamar Odom is prime search on Google in 2015
The three public figures people were most curious about (at least on Google) were Odom, wrestler Ronda Rousey, and Caitlyn Jenner, who announced her gender transition on ABC News’ “20/20” in April. The most searched-for politician, perhaps unsurprisingly, was Jeremy Corbyn, with Donald Trump down in eighth. The Top Charts show more information ranging from “top dog” questions to GIF searches. Star Wars, the Paris attacks, Rugby World Cup, Volkswagen emissions scandal, migrant crisis, Iran nuclear deal, Nepal natural disaster, Oscars 2015, and more are all among the biggest moments for this year. Cilla Black was also the top trending search term overall. His situation had the world searching for answers. Check out the rest of the trends here!
Google also provided an interactive visualization of the timeline and popularity of searches so you can see spikes in interest and the total volume of each search. For the top-trending searches general, probably the most very popular cycle was again Lamar Odom, the previous professional basketball player & estranged partner of Khloe Kardashian who was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel this fall.
So what hints for 2016 can we glean from this year’s trending searches? Local pop culture definitely dominated this year, topping both the music and TV series lists, according to Google’s release. The global list continues with Charlie Hebdo, Agar.io, Jurassic World, Paris, Furious 7, Fallout 4, Ronda Rousey, Caitlyn Jenner and American Sniper.
