Appalachian State University announced on Friday that Coach Satterfield has received a five-year contract extension through the 2020 season. “It’s exciting for my family and me to know that we’re going to be at Appalachian for the foreseeable future”, Satterfield said. “I’m thankful to him for his commitment to Appalachian State and am excited that he and his family will remain a part of the Appalachian family”.
In 12 defensive series, Appalachian forced GSU to punt eight times and recorded an interception, a fumble recover and a turnover on downs. “They squeezed on the underneath routes”.
After racking up 469 rushing yards in the last meeting, Appalachiaj State opened the passing game to the tune of 291 yards as the Mountaineers dipatched Georgia State 37-3 in the Georgia Dome on Saturday. He completed 18-of-24 passes for 291 yards and three scores – a 29-yarder to Bobo Beathard, a nine-yarder to Levi Duffield and a 30-yarder to Shaedon Meadors. It was Gibb’s fifth interception of the season, with one coming in each of the Mountaineers’ five games. Sixty-seven of the Panthers’ 225 total yards came on the final drive of the first half when they kicked a 25-yard field goal for their only points.
Zach Matics kicked field goals of 22 and 39 yards, and Appalachian State led 30-3 late in the third quarter.
The three seasons Satterfield spent away from the Mountaineer program were spent in the FBS, one as Toledo’s passing coordinator and the other two as the offensive coordinator at Florida worldwide University.
The Mountaineers’ success will begin – as it often has over the past two seasons – with Marcus Cox, who is among 26 App State players heading home to Georgia this weekend. The Mountaineers averaged 11.6 yards per pass attempt and 16.2 yards per completion, compared to just 4.3 yards per attempt and 7.9 yards per completion for the Panthers.
