Lambert signs for Baggies
The striker has the right blend of nous and strength to hold the ball up top but also play the ground football Pulis does not get the credit for at The Hawthorns.
Lambert had joined the Anfield outfit just 13 months ago but quickly found his future in doubt.
West Brom have completed the signing of Liverpool cast-off Rickie Lambert for the princely sum of £3million.
The striker has signed a two-year deal with the Baggies and is in their squad to face former club Bristol Rovers tonight.
The 33-year-old began his career in the Reds’ academy and, after stints with several lower league clubs, signed for Southampton in 2009 where he scored 117 goals in five seasons.
Lambert, who has 11 caps for England, leaves Merseyside for an undisclosed fee, estimated to be around 3 million pounds ($4.1 million), according to British media reports.
He likened the experienced striker’s last year or so to an unused vehicle – insisting that it would be similar to bringing a “brand new auto out of the garage” and just putting “a bit of petrol in him and letting him run”. At 33, Lambert isn’t one for the future but what he does represent is an immediate solution to a problem area for West Brom.
The Reds have put him on the transfer list and now West Brom are ready to swoop to boost their attacking options, in light of Saido Berahino possibly leaving the club.
“He’s a very sharp player, very intelligent, very quick, he’s a good finisher”.
