Lamborghini’s Centenario Roadster To Debut At Quail & Pebble Beach
After dazzling attendees at the 2016 Geneva auto show with its latest “one-off limited edition”, the spectacular Centenario coupe, Lamborghini has done what we knew it would eventually do: Scalp the thing.
Lamborghini debuted a roadster version of its Centenario supercar during its Monterey Car Week festivities today.
The Centenario, created to commemorate founder Ferruccio Lamborghini’s 100th birthday, is a must have if your $400,000 Aventador just isn’t enough or if you need a his-and-hers matching set with the coupe. The engine’s redline has been raised from 8,350 rpm to 8,600. Boasting a whopping 6.5-liter V12 engine capable of smashing around 759 horsepower with a top speed of 217 miles per hour! “I’m one of a very lucky few that got to drive the hardtop version of the Centenario – it is without question the best driving Lamborghini ever built.” said Jonny Lieberman, MotorTrend’s senior features editor and host of Head 2 Head and Ignition.
While the coupe’s dramatic, intimidating body was rendered entirely in bare carbon fiber with yellow accents, the roadster is painted a special matte-silver color: Argento Centenario.
Right before the big show, the Centenario Roadster will be showcased at the Quail Golf Club event. Not forgetting the entire auto is equipped with apple CarPlay making it one huge iPhone and a fast one at that. The bumpers, windshield, air tunnels behind the seat restraints, rear diffuser, and dynamic rear spoiler (extends up to 150 mm and swivels up to 15 degrees) ensure that the lighting quick topless Lambo stays glued to the road.
As we reported from Geneva, Lamborghini says all 40 Centenarios were sold before the auto was ever shown.
One major ace up the $2.3 million Roadster’s sleeve is its four-wheel steering, which is missing on the Aventador (the upcoming facelift might change that, though). Deliveries will run through 2017.
