Lancashire cricketers ‘involved in bar brawl’ after T20 win
The Lancashire Lighnights were in Ashford following their victory over the Kent Spitfires in Saturday’s quarter finals of the NatWest T20 Blast.
Livingstone and teammates were celebrating their side’s progression to the Twenty20 domestic competition semi-finals when it is understood a patron of the Auction House Bar reacted badly to being accidentally bumped by one of Lancashire’s players, subsequently leading to a brawl in which punches were thrown and police and ambulance were called. Witnesses say the player apologised immediately but the other man took offence.
The county club said it was investigating but would not comment further.
The game was played in front of a crowd of 7,000 and was broadcast live on Sky Sports.
The England man was in a group enjoying their dramatic win along with Australian all-rounder James Faulkner, South African batsman Ashwell Prince and coaching staff, including head coach Ashley Giles.
Kent Police said it received a report of a disturbance at 11.57pm. A force spokesman said: “Officers attended the Auction House Bar in New Street, Ashford”.
Livingstone remains with the squad in Southampton but will not be considered for selection at the Ageas Bowl despite hitting a match-winning 91 on his List A debut in the club’s last Royal London Cup outing, also against Kent at Canterbury.
Several media outlets are claiming Livingstone, 22, was attacked and sustained an injury to his head.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident”.
“The matter is now being investigated by the police and nobody from the club will be making any further comment at this stage”. “Any witnesses can contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/ 025414/15”.
