Lancaster leads California cities in “best drivers” report
Drivers in Kansas City, Kansas, are the safest on the road, bumping Fort Collins, Colorado, from the distinction it had enjoyed for four years, insurer Allstate Corp. said in releasing a study of traffic-crash data.
Seattle drivers, you’re getting worse at being safe.
A Fort Collins driver will end up in an accident once in every 12.7 years, according to the insurance company, which is the fourth safest among the 200 large cities included in the “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report”.
New this year, the report provides information about a key factor in collisions – braking habits – in approximately 100 cities nationally.
Austin is a population-dense city, which means drivers have to deal with stop-and-go traffic, gridlock, pedestrian walkways and event detours, all of which can cause crashes.
Recently, the National Safety Council estimated the U.S.is on track for its deadliest driving year since 2007, Allstate says. Reported property damage claims were analyzed over a two-year period (from January 2012 to December 2013).
Drivers in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, are at the bottom of Allstate’s report. Seventy-percent of those accidents happen at speeds under 35 miles per hour.

Santa Rosa ranked 105th for driver safety among the 200 largest cities in the United States, moving up from its ranking past year at 119, but still a long way off its best recent ranking of 61 in 2010. The data is based on where the accident takes place, not where the driver lives.
