Land Rover recalls 65,000 SUVs in US for door latch problem
The root of the problem is a software glitch inside the keyless entry system as reported by Land Rover, which began investigating the problem last October. The largest number of recalled SUVs need repairs to make sure the doors don’t fly open while cruising down the highway.
The biggest recall involves 2013 to 2016 Range Rovers and 2014 to 2016 Range Rover Sport models. This issue, according to the NHTSA, could be risky due to the risk of passengers falling out from an unexpectedly opened door, or the unlocking of the door distracting a driver to the point of an accident.
GM hasn’t made the Hummer since the 2010 model, but it still honors warranties. Owners will be notified and the dealers will update the keyless entry software, free of charge.
“Where the panoramic roof glass panel detaches from the vehicle, it may collide with other vehicles on the road or compel other road users to take evasive action”.
Land Rover says the problem is caused by the use of an incorrect primer that can loosen the adhesive used on the panoramic roof. Owners can then take their vehicles to a Land Rover dealer, who will apply the correct primer to the panoramic roof. Land Rover’s LR4 models manufactured between August 15, 2012 and September 18, 2012 are also on the recall list.
