Landmark Nagaland peace accord inked
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who today announced a historic peace accord with militant group Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), said the Naga problem is a legacy of the British rule. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, more than 170 people have died this year alone in Nagaland in terror-related incidents. Details and execution plan within this framework agreement will be released shortly, official sources said after the accord in which Doval played the central role.
The rebel group was fighting for an independent homeland for the Naga tribes.
In his statement at the signing ceremony, the Hon’ble Prime Minister lauded the courage and wisdom of the Naga leaders and civil society and thanked them for their co-operation in reaching the agreement.
Modi further underlined the power of non-violence, saying guns have never resolved any issue. he added that the people of Nagaland were very close to Mahatma Gandhi’s heart and the Naga problem would have been solved long ago if Gandhi lived a bit longer.
“Under the management of PM Narendra Modi, we’ve come near understanding one another and labored out a brand new relationship between the 2 events”, T Muivah stated additional.
Modi termed the accord as historic and blamed the colonial British government for the six-decade-old Nagaland
issue.
Speaking on the occasion, Muivah said, “I thank God for this momentous occasion”.
He added, “We will not only try to heal wounds and resolve problems, but also be your partner as you restore your pride and prestige”.
“They also spread negative ideas about the rest of India amongst Naga people”. Then, the outfit leaders had held talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2001.
Welcoming the signing of the peace accord between the Government of India and the NSCN, former Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said he hoped that it becomes an “honourable settlement” acceptable to the people.
