Landon Collins seals Giants 5th straight win with INT
The Chicago Bears are now 2-8 following Sunday’s 22-16 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
The winning streak is the longest in the regular season for the Giants (7-3) since 2010. On the last three offensive series, McAdoo called for first- and second-down running plays all three times.
The bad news is even when giving their all, these Bears just aren’t good enough to compete with a merely better-than-average National Football League team. Instead, he got the attention of Manning’s line.
The defense, ranked last a year ago, is one reason the Giants have one more win than they managed in either of the last two seasons. “Ain’t nothing changed about him”. He completed 22 out of 36 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Of course, there was a little excitement.
The conservative game plan after going ahead in the ball game may have contributed to the sudden failure of the offense, which only assembled two first downs in its final five drives. The rest of the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, with one miss: Chicago’s Connor Barth, Minnesota’s Kai Forbath, Jacksonville’s Jason Myers, Cleveland’s Cody Parkey, New England’s Stephen Gostkowski, and Washington’s Dustin Hopkins. “It would be nice to get some games with some larger margins, but that doesn’t seem to be the case”, head coach Ben McAdoo said.
And, because of this, players like Andrew Adams, Landon Collins, Eli Apple, Bobby Hart, Roger Lewis and others have not only remained major contributors, but some – like Collins and Adams – have developed into extremely productive players – even after individual struggles.
Indianapolis (5-5) evened its record by winning back-to-back games for the first time this season. “Offense, defense, everybody’s stepping up and doing their part to get wins”. Then again, they haven’t won any of their games by more than a touchdown, including Sunday’s nail-biter over the Bears, so how good are they really? Besides the sacks, Pierre-Paul had three quarterback hits, a deflected pass, a forced fumble and a tackle for a loss. Olivier Vernon – who has played much of the season with a broken hand – got his fourth sack of the season and two tackles for losses too. Guard Josh Sitton (ankle), tight end Zach Miller (foot), and linebacker Leonard Floyd (neck) all exited the game before it’s end. Giants receiver Roger Lewis Jr. and Bears cornerback Cre’Von LeBlanc left in the first-half with concussions.
It’s another big blow for Miller, but also a bad break for the Bears, who don’t have a lot depth at the tight end position. Relying on Cutler, especially in the second half, took the ball out of what is probably the Bears best playmaker with Alshon Jeffery suspended and ultimately cost Chicago the game.
Cutler already missed five games this season with a thumb injury.
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning (10) waves to fans as he leaves the field after playing agai … Obviously the first one was huge, hitting Sterling Shepard on a crossing route which led to a touchdown. “I think everybody knows and everybody is ready for the defense to go out there and win the game”. “We just have to take it one game at a time and continue to stack these W’s”. “[Cutler] gave me a shot and I have to come up and make that play”.
RUNNING GIANTS: New York is starting to find a running game. 7, 2014 at Jacksonville and Tennessee.
Giants’ defensive line – After a rather sluggish first half, the entire defensive line came up big in the second half. He was not sacked.
If you want a completely unbiased viewpoint, my words are waiting for you.
“He did a great job of getting the ball out fast”, McPhee said.
