Landon Donovan returns to LA Galaxy in 4-2 win over Orlando

Fans first chance to find out will be on Sunday, September 11, at 4:00PM PST when Donovan and the LA Galaxy host Kaka and the Orlando City Football Club at Stubhub Center.

“Landon Donovan could obviously be a factor in this game but, in our mind, I would be more concerned about the potential impact of Robbie Keane in this situation”.

According to a few former teammates and close friends, the answer is a resounding yes.

From there, he’ll do what he can to help bring the MLS Cup back to a place that’s been home for him for so many years. “I think it is a great thing for all of us and I sincerely hope he does well and can come back and contribute once again – but not against us”. But stepping back out on to the field with pros is a different world. Landon Donovan seems to have accepted that he isn’t the player he used to be. “But I think there were few people that picked this moment for it to happen”.

He retired in December 2014, citing burnout after leading the Galaxy to their fifth MLS Cup title.

Donovan wrote that he was persuaded to return after watching several key Galaxy players pick up injuries in recent weeks.

Time, however, is running short for the Galaxy, who have won just one of their last eight MLS games, scoring less than two goals in half of them. “There are some athletes in the world that have certain qualities that with the right motivation and support they can come back and play”.

“Anything he can give us in a positive manner is a plus”, Arena said.

Landon Donovan just didn’t decide to just return to MLS without any thought on his decision.

The 34-year-old Donovan acknowledged in the interview that he’s still a long way from full fitness.

But maybe it’s best to forget the future for a while and simply enjoy one additional look over the next few months at the best soccer player, still, that this country has ever produced.

Donovan hasn’t allowed himself to drift into retirement shape. What does that say about MLS and the players when someone is able to come in after not playing for two years and take everyone to school?

I spoke with some of them that week and they jokingly asked if I was ready to make a return to the field to help fill some of the void left by the injuries and departures.

Given LA’s personnel, that might be the best fit.

In the 35th minute, LA would equalize when Brian Rowe quickly distributed to Van Damme, and after Van Damme located Emmanuel Boateng with space and the winger raced down the flank, Boateng squared to a streaking dos Santos for the tap-in, capping a lovely 10 second counter-attack. Arena said he started hearing rumors and “I contacted him regarding those rumors”.

Bruce Arena’s Galaxy are missing Gyasi Zardes for the remainder of the season.

“It doesn’t change [our game plan]”, Kreis said.

The former MLS MVP and US worldwide shocked many around the league by announcing his return from his 2014 retirement Thursday.

Donovan said he started thinking about a comeback while working the August 27 Galaxy game as an analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet. It will be fascinating to watch either way.

He talked Friday about a conversation with his wife, Hannah, after retiring in 2014, at age 32, still at the top of his game but with his passion for soccer seemingly extinguished. “We spent our entire youth dreaming of becoming professional soccer players”. “Our preparation is not too much about individuals, unless we are concentrating on the Drogbas or Giovincos, and I don’t think we would be overly concerned in this instance, even if he was starting. Landon can, and that’s why I am rooting for him”.
