Larry David Calls Donald Trump ‘Racist’ During SNL Monologue
Live from NY, it’s Donald Trump!
This was also the general consensus of those watching at home on social media with many tweeting out that Trump on “SNL” was an easygoing affair.
The unpredictable Republican presidential candidate has been given the credit for helping to boost debate ratings, as well. Not even Taran Killam and Darrell Hammond doing their versions of Trump beside Trump could save this TV moment. Trump will host the show on November 7. One group had offered a $5,000 bounty to anyone who heckled the businessman during the show by shouting Trump is a racist. The billionaire businessman was interrupted early in the broadcast by a man shouting Trump is a racist! The heckler, however, turned out to be actor Larry David, who played Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in another sketch.
For weeks, people had fretted about Donald Trump, Republican presidential candidate, despoiler of a Chicago skyscraper and former NBC reality star, being given a chance to host “Saturday Night Live”.
While NBC allowed Trump to host “SNL” on Saturday, it cut business ties with him in June, firing him from “The Apprentice” and refusing to air his Miss United States of America and Miss Universe contests following his disparaging remarks.
Washington Post critic Hank Steuver called Trump’s hosting effort an “anemic and halfhearted dud”, and blamed NBC for giving him an extra campaign platform. As NBC announced yesterday, Trump’s episode of SNL brought in a few major numbers for the network, as the hour averaged a 6.6 rating and 16 share in metered-market households.
The real estate mogul was joined on stage by various versions of himself, each bringing their best Trump charm and favorite lines as he exclaimed that this show has been “a disaster” for him but he’s back because he knows “how to take a joke”. “I said to the writers of this sketch, ‘Keep it modest.'” His preference, he insisted, was to keep expectations low for his presidency and not overpromise.
Another sketch imagined Trump in the Oval Office in 2018 – two years into his presidency – savoring his many successes.
Before the show, Latino activists demonstrated outside NBC’s NY studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
To be fair, Trump hosted the entire show, while Clinton was a guest and only appeared in the first skit.
