Las Vegas police searching for man after officer shot with high-powered firearm
Sgt. John Sheahan, of Las Vegas Metro police, said officers were responding to reports of people knocking on the front door of a home and trying to break in through a back door.
Officers locked down a wide area including homes and stores in a commercial corridor of Rainbow Boulevard south of the US 95 freeway for a door-to-door search using police dogs, SWAT and patrol officers, and a helicopter.
That man, believed to be in his 20s, was hospitalized with head and arm injuries.
The officer was struck in the leg, was recovering in stable but serious condition at University Medical Center, and will require extensive surgery, said Sheriff Joseph Lombardo.
Police say a suspect is in custody, but officers are still looking for one other suspect.
The two officers who responded were ambushed when entering the backyard.
Lombardo said assisting units arrived and one of them deployed a K-9, which stopped 20-year-old Clemon Hudson, who was armed with a shotgun, from fleeing.
