The series winds down with Lorelai and Luke’s small wedding in the town square with Rory, Luke, Lorelai, Lane, and Michele (yes Michele) as her man of honor. Rory finds a new direction for her life when Jess tells her to write a book about her relationship with Lorelai. A little backstory: Gilmore Girls creator/writer/producer/goddess Amy Sherman-Palladino created the lore of the Final Four Words when she revealed that she had always known the dialogue that would close the series. I know I should, but I don’t have a hankering for it. It looked like they would finally live happily ever after, but it seems like things might be rocky in the revival. “Nearly never in a career or in life do you ever get to do anything that you want to do, so the fact that we got to do it, the way that we wanted to do it, was like fate”.
Graham: It is incredible.
Final spoiler warning: Don’t keep reading if you don’t know how the series ends!
“You watch Rory go through love and heartbreak and I think every teenage girl can relate to that and Lorelai is just so talkative, which is what I kind of relate to because I babble forever”.
They aren’t the only Calgary fans looking forward to waking up Friday morning to a fresh batch of episodes.
“We really had a very specific journey in our minds and we fulfilled the journey”. In terms of impact on the characters and your emotional state, yes, they did. My character, I remember, was so different from any character that was on TV. Very opposite of Rory. “I think [Christopher] would be happy!”
Graham: I was like, “Get out of my way, this is mine”. I couldn’t have imagined that that would be the conclusion that Amy wanted. All my actress friends said, “Aren’t you afraid to play a mom?”.
The on-and-off cycle of Lorelai and Luke is not new to Gilmore Girls. He’s the idealist, the small-town boy who simply wants to help Rory be the best version of herself she can be, hoping that she’ll be willing to take him along for the ride. You’ve all waited long enough for this moment; I’ll just have to wait a liiiittle bit longer. The bad news: the episodes can “drag” thanks to “superfluous subplots”.
Graham: The table read was insane. We saw Lorelai’s shocked face, then. Bam! “I know how to do this”. I had it when I was pregnant with my first kid, though. Would uber-Christian Mrs Kim really get divorced? “So when I read it on the page I was like, ‘OK!'” Jared Padalecki, who plays Dean, also followed a similar approach and focused on research to reprise his years-old role of Rory’s boyfriend. It has four episodes which will run for 90 minutes.
Bledel: A lot of water was needed.
