Last night’s Oscars mix-up may have been caused by a tweet
It was a symbolic hit to what the firm’s brand stands for.
Moonlight won Best Picture after a complete mix-up on the stage in which Faye Dunaway read the wrong victor. While the Syrian rescue workers at the center of Best Documentary Feature nominee The White Helmetshave secured visas to attend the ceremony, Iranian director (and previous Oscar winner) Asghar Farhadi, who helmed Best Foreign Film nominee The Salesman, declared that he wouldn’t attend the ceremony even if he were granted an exception.
And the (real) winners are..
“The story was picked up globally, and continues, globally, to overwhelm my appearance at the Oscars, on the occasion of my record breaking 20th nomination, and to eclipse this honor [sic] in the eyes of the media, my colleagues and the audience”, Streep, 67, said in a statement. “We deeply regret the mistakes that were made during the presentation of the Best Picture category during last night’s Oscar ceremony”, the Academy wrote in a statement. We have spent last night and today investigating the circumstances, and will determine what actions are appropriate going forward.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, the professional services company that has counted Oscar votes and sealed the award envelopes for 82 years, apologised.
The late-night comedian quipped that Trump, who pulled off a political upset win with his campaign that targeted immigration, had taken the heat off Hollywood and its annual gala. “He feels very, very bad and awful”.
Davis, who was born in August 1965 on her grandmother’s farm in SC, has spoken of her frustration at casting directors who are unable to see past the color of her skin.
MORE MOVIES: There were more movies potentially in the Oscar mix this year.
‘Once the error occurred, protocols for correcting it were not followed through quickly enough by Mr. Cullinan or his partner’.
“We clearly made a mistake and once the mistake was made we corrected it and owned up to it, ” Tim Ryan, the U.S chairman of the accounting firm, told Variety.
“This broadcast is being watched by millions of Americans and, around the world, 225 countries that now hate us, and I think that is an unbelievable thing”.
“If it’s a mistake that isn’t related to what the brand stands for, I’m less anxious. But accuracy of reporting is one of the tenets of PwC”, said Katie Sprehe, director of reputation research at Washington-based communications consultancy APCO Worldwide. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Fox News reached out to the Academy to ask about PwC’s future with the Oscars but we have yet to receive a reply. They immediately told the “production team” about the error. When she exited the stage he let out a whoop that sounded through the wings, and then ran to the stage to receive her.
“I don’t want to get too serious right now, but if everyone watching this took a minute to reach out to one person you disagree with and have a considered conversation, we could make American great again”. They’re talking about the other envelope. This is the first time the envelopes leave their possession.
So if Beatty was handed the wrong envelope, who exactly gave it to him?
“You have to show that you’re willing to pay a price”, he said.
