Last Shot of Mad Men Was Actually Painful
And this year’s Emmys prove that top industry acclaim can follow, no matter how limited the audience. Andy Samberg (currently of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, formerly of Saturday Night Live) is the host.
There are reportedly more series nominees than ever before as the awards near due to the inundation of higher quality programming both on television and specialty streaming sites like Netflix. Somebody has to be snubbed and that somebody might have done excellent work.
“Mad Men” – the 1960s advertising show ended in May.
In my opinion, the best show, week to week, was John Oliver’s.
As far as predictions go, Game of Thrones is the odds on favorite for best drama series.
To say that HBO’s “Game of Thrones” is a hit is like saying Cal Ripken, Jr. was an OK baseball player. Such is its following and such is the admiration for the skill involved that it will tempt some voters.
“Mad Men” enters the ceremony with an impressive resume.

Among the list of actresses involved are Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder), Khandi Alexander (Scandal), Angela Bassett (American Horror Story), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Uzo Aduba (Orange is The New Black), and many more.
Tell Us: Who do you think will win an Emmy this year? The lapse is a mystery. Though sci-fi and genre shows fare decently in the Creative Arts Emmys (all those cool costumes and special effects will do that), only a handful of sci-fi or fantasy shows have ever won Primetime awards. According to the CNN on September 16, it could be a well-deserved and victorious night for Jon Hamm from “Mad Men“. Probable victor : “Transparent.” Strongest competition: “Modern Family” or “Veep“. If they falter in one of those two and fail to surprise elsewhere they will need to win Best Drama Series to set the record.
The challenge for the team behind the telecast is to preserve the tradition of the Emmy Awards while making it fresh enough to keep viewers watching. “A series may formally petition the Academy to consider that series eligible in the alternative category (i.e. a thirty (30) minute series submitting as a “Drama” and/or a sixty (60) minute series submitting as a “Comedy“)”, a document released by the Academy reads.
Another Mad Men storyline creeps into the category of best supporting actress in a drama.
Shows that could have a big night with their multiple nominations include “Louis”, “Game of Thrones,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt“, “House of Cards” and “Veep“. Most critics think this award will go to “Transparent“, but they’re not voting members. HBO won 29 awards, including eight for “Game of Thrones”.
Inc.’s AMZN, +0.26% “Transparent” starring Jeffrey Tambor garnered 11 Emmy nods this year.
Remember the moment Susan Lucci finally won an Emmy? ABC’s comedy Modern Family is the clubbiest of Emmy insiders, winning this category the past five years in a row. Find out more about the Emmys “Backstage LIVE!” coverage here.
The word “overwhelmed” is what defines TV these days.
Emmy hosts Cybill Shepherd and Jason Alexander kicked off the show by entering the stage performing a campy tango dance number. Consider how many small masterpieces are nominated. BBC television series Wolf Hall and The Honourable Woman have also received nominations. See the full rundown of candidates here.
