Last supermoon of 2015 brings high tide, minor flooding risk
The next high tide will be at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday. Communities like Oceanside, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, La Jolla and Imperial Beach saw minor tidal flooding. The weather service warned that low-lying areas could see minor flooding, especially during morning high tides.
The north shores of all the Hawaiian Islands were under a high surf warning on Wednesday, with forecasters expecting 25- to 30-foot waves to mark the start of Hawaii’s big-wave season.
There’s a 50 percent chance of rain in Charleston this afternoon, and rain is in the forecast the next several days, according to the National Weather Service. Coastal flood advisories also will be in force in Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, San Diego and Orange counties. Most will be clustered along I-4 and in northern counties.
Coastal flooding has already caused a few roads to close on Tuesday morning.
Forecasters said Thursday and Friday would have the highest potential for impacts, such as the flooding of such low-lying areas as beach parking lots, adjacent streets and, possibly, structures.
Lifeguards were asking people to stay out of the water due to high swell and unsafe rip currents. “Be sure to always keep your eyes on the ocean”. Thrashing waves and tides reached nearly seven-feet, creating ideal conditions for surfers.
