LastPass for Android Devices Now Free
Password manager LastPass has made access to its mobile apps free, giving smartphone users one fewer excuse to use the same password on every site they visit.
Here’s how it works: You can now install LastPass for free and use it with a desktop browser.
Thankfully, there are apps that can handle that for you, and one of them is now available as a free download on smartphones, tablets or desktop. “Wherever you get started, you can use LastPass on that device, and any others of the same device type – desktops, smartphones, or tablets – for free!” The company has knocked off the $12 annual fee that it used to charge for premium support from LastPass’ Android, Windows Phone, and iOS clients.
With increasing numbers of credentials being stolen in data breaches it makes sense to use a password manager to protect your online accounts. Rival Dashlane also offers a cloud-based solution.
LastPass looks to provide users with a secure way to manage all their passwords through the usage of a single master password.
Either ways it still makes for an easier way to access your passwords, wherever and whenever you need them. According to the company’s press release, after investigating the suspicious activity, LastPass account email addresses, password reminders, server per user salts and authentication hashes were found compromised.
LastPass has finally renewed its subscription plans and introduced a new free plan.
As for those who already have a LastPass account, their default device becomes their computers.
The reason for allowing everyone free use of its mobile apps is simple: this is a mobile-first world. For example, if you sign up on a tablet, you can only sync data to other tablets. Instead of dividing the service between PCs and mobile devices, LastPass is now dealing with three distinct platforms-namely, PCs, smartphones, and tablets. You can get started by downloading the free version from the LastPass website.
