LastPass makes its password management apps free on smartphones
The new model could be good timing for Samsung Galaxy S6 owners, who got either three or six months LastPass Premium subscription with their smartphones.
“People often hear about useful apps on the go and want to get started right away from their smartphone”, says Joe Siegrist, CEO of LastPass.
Of course you could always roll your own solution for free using alternate tools such as 1Password or KeePass and Dropbox or another cloud service. The free account includes data sync across any amount of devices, as long as those devices stays within the same product category.
LastPass for Android is a free download from Google Play.
The reason for allowing everyone free use of its mobile apps is simple: this is a mobile-first world.
Popular password manager LastPass is encouraging users to make the leap by making its service available free on mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets from today.
Seven years later, times have changed and users are just as likely to want to start using LastPass on a smartphone as they are a PC. And if you do find yourself wishing for LastPass on more devices, it’ll only cost you $12 per year. All of your data will be synchronized across as many desktops as you can use: so you can install LastPass on your home PC, work computer, and laptop and use the service without paying a penny.
