Late interception helps Washington beat Giants
The first was Kirk Cousins missing Jamison Crowder in the end zone with six seconds left, and the next was Cousins getting sacked by Jen Pierre-Paul as time ran out – with a timeout in hand. Washington scored its first touchdown of the game on a 44-yard pass from Cousins to DeSean Jackson with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in coverage and almost took the lead before halftime when they drove to the Giants’ 4, but Jason Pierre-Paul sacked Cousins as time expired.
The Giants enter a month of October that includes three road trips, beginning with a Monday night game against the Minnesota Vikings at the new U.S. Bank Stadium. An aborted fumble and a fumble recovered by the Washington defense have held the offense back.
For the other twenty-some players on the field, it was a busy game.
The Giants’ last chance drive ended when Su’a Cravens intercepted Eli Manning with 1:02 left.
The Redskins had an injury scare late in the first half with oft-injured receiver DeSean Jackson. WR Sterling Shepard hauled in a 23-yard touchdown in the first quarter and went on to finish with 73 yards on five catches …
There were multiple injuries in the game, with the Redskins losing center Kory Lichtensteiger with a calf injury, offensive lineman Shawn Lauvao with an ankle and cornerbacks Bashaud Breeland (ankle) and DeAngelo Hall (knee) also leaving without returning.
Washington took a 26-24 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter with a 25-yard field goal. The Giants saw rookie cornerback Eli Apple (hamstring) and veteran DB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin) leave the game.
