Late Season Tropical System Expected to Turn Out to Sea
As of 10 p.m. Sunday, Tropical Depression 12 was 115 miles southeast of San Salvador, moving northwest at 14 mph, carrying maximum sustained winds of 35 mph.
A collection of showers and thunderstorms near the Bahamas bears an 80% chance of forming into a tropical depression or tropical storm in the next two days.
Locally heavy rains and strong gusty winds are possible over Hispaniola today, and over the Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas during the next day or so.
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the central and northwestern Bahamas.
The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory about Tropical Depression 12.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, remains partially activated to monitor the storm and to keep the public properly advised.
The system is expected to produce tropical storm conditions over much of the Bahamas on Monday.
Hurricane Hunter aircraft from the Air Force Reserve are scheduled to fly into the system to investigate further on Monday morning. Also, newly designated Hurricane Shelters have been announced for those areas expected to be impacted.
