Arsène Wenger could end his policy of no longer signing outfield players if there is any truth to claims that the Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi and his Celta Vigo counterpart Nolito both feature in the Arsenal manager’s future’s plans.
Luis Enrique’s team is also reported to be weighing a possible loan move for David Villa.
The former Manchester United forward has been linked to Barcelona before.
At national team level, things haven’t been much better after he reportedly had a run-in with Memphis Depay, and scored an own goal in the Netherlands’ latest match, a 3-2 loss to Czech Republic in the final game of their Euro 2016 qualification campaign.
He said: “There is a list of veteran strikers that would come cheaply [to Barcelona] and will accept a secondary role, but Van Persie is not on that list”.
There would be a few opposition to any move for Van Persie. “For Van Persie and for us, this is not the most ideal situation… it’s not a good situation when one of your main players is not in the starting line-up weekly”.
Last summer a FIFA-imposed transfer ban looked like leaving Barcelona inactive in the transfer market but despite not being able to register any players until the end of 2015 they still splashed out on Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal. But a move in January could be the flawless move for van Persie’s career. He had only been at the club for three months when he suffered knee ligament damage that ruled him out for most of the season.
