Lawyer: Leonte Carroo never touched alleged victim
The Rutgers University Police Department charged three people on Tuesday for their alleged roles in an altercation involving Rutgers football wide receiver Leonte Carroo, according to a statement by University spokesperson Greg Trevor.
Attorney William Fetky appeared with Carroo at a court hearing where a woman Carroo is accused of attacking September 12 was seeking a permanent restraining order against him.
One of Carroo’s friends, Shane Turner was prepared to testify that he grabbed that 20-year-old woman’s arm and pushed her, and that’s when she fell, Fetky said. He was released on $1,000 bail and is scheduled for an October 1 court appearance.
“All of the evidence will show that she is not the victim”.
The father of the alleged victim told NJ Advance Media that his daughter filed a restraining order against Leonte Carroo.
He said the alleged victim, who claims she was picked up and slammed to the ground by Carroo, was actually the aggressor in an altercation outside the Hale Center on September 12.
“Everything indicates that she is the only one who should be charged in this”, Fetky said.
It’s unclear if they have lawyers who can comment on the charges.
Carroo was suspended indefinitely from the football team following the incident and, per a spokesperson to NJ.com, is still a student at the school.
The alleged victim is a junior at Rutgers.
The woman received injuries on her hip, hands, elbow and head.
The football team, which has lost two straight games, has been garnering negative headlines since the beginning of the month, when six other current and three former players were charged with a series of violent crimes in and around the New Brunswick campus.
