Le Pen vows to bring suit vs France over Calais migrants
“Seriously, have you ever heard me say something like that?”
This trend is backed up by a midweek poll released in France yesterday, which suggests both Le Pens standing will actually be defeated come the weekend, losing seats to Nicolas Sarkozy’s centre-right republic party. There’s talk about setting up a “Republican front” to combat Le Pen, with the Socialists and the Republicans joining forces – something Sarkozy and some Socialist politicians would hate to do, but which may become necessary in further elections if the National Front keeps winning.
ELEANOR BEARDSLEY, BYLINE: Marion Marechal-Le Pen is the niece of National Front leader Marine Le Pen and the granddaughter of party founder Jean-Marie Le Pen, and this crowd in Marseille can’t get enough of her. This svelte blonde lawyer and mother is the hallmark of the party’s success in this round of elections.
In a bid to stop a second-round National Front victory, the Socialist Party ordered its candidates to withdraw in those two regions so their supporters could give their votes to conservative candidates, a bitter exercise that Prime Minister Manuel Valls said was necessary.
Le Pen is known for her own provocative statements about “illegals” and Islam. The National Front is a party still known for its xenophobia and wider links to the rhetoric and politics of European neo-fascism.
The regional elections on Sunday, December 5, in France verified what the polls had been saying for quite some time. In doing so, she has managed to open the party up not only to Jewish voters, but to conservative middle classes. “No other choice will make as much noise as this one, no other ballot will say more clearly to those who govern us or to those who’d like to succeed them: Protect us or we will ask others to do it”.
“No matter how the National Front is going to handle things, whether they succeed or not, at least we are certain they will bring change”, he added.
In addition, the voices that have taken up the cause of defending national borders and traditional cultures against immigration and other perceived threats are now coming for the first time from populist voices outside the political establishment.
But Sarkozy disappointed some French by under-achieving on reforms to revive the economy, and he is also dogged by investigations into his campaign financing.
A survey by Elabe pollsters showed the conservative candidate attracting 43 percent of the vote in that region, slightly ahead of the Front’s number 2 official Florian Philippot, who would get 41 percent. “Regions are more symbolic than European elections in terms of impact on voters’ confidence”. Presently, it is a shameful reality that members of these extreme right parties play the role of postal service workers for the Israeli embassy within the European Parliament. “They’re getting the same score as in 2010, when they were in power and were punished for the impact of the global financial crisis”. The latest New York Times/CBS News nationwide poll showed that Trump had the support of 40 percent of Republican voters without a college degree. As pointed out by the Spectator, on Sunday evening Le Pen addressed the “French of all origins” to vote for FN in the second round.
The poll was largely taken before his statement on Monday afternoon proposing to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the United States. “The real Republican front is the Front National”, she tells the audience, which cheers wildly, raising flags and booing at each reference to the current ruling class.
