League title may be out of United’s reach, says Mourinho
With just 20 points accumulated and now sitting 14 points adrift of table leaders Chelsea, Mourinho fears that a comeback is beyond United.
Despite all that, there are some positives.
Everton will be looking to turn their rotten form around against a rather inconsistent Manchester United side. So I can not say that I would be just happy with that item. Interestingly, his comments come after the club managed to reach the semifinals of the EFL Cup after beating West Ham. But what is frustrating Mourinho is that the best performances have occurred in the cups and not the league.
United have won just one of their last seven Premier League encounters heading into the game at Goodison Park.
“I thought you were right and I went in one direction, not because you said that but because I also realised that was the way to go and more important than what you say and write is what our fans say and write”.
At the start of the season, Manchester United were labelled as one of the front-runners for the Premier League title, but the Red Devils have failed to keep up with the pace of their rivals. “Still, he is one of the best, still making a difference for the team and if he gets chances he still scores goals”.
“For instance to make the defenders mark in a zonal way, instead of following the man, that has been hard”.
“Especially going to away grounds, so it’s going to be a tough encounter for us”.
Mourinho also questioned why there is one rule for him and one rule for all other managers in the Premier League.
With two new managers in charge, it’s hard to be sure how much all that history counts for. We know where we want to go and our destination is to be champions. However, having scored three goals in his last two appeareances, Ibrahimovic seems to be rediscovering his shooting boots and it’d be a safe bet to have the 35-year-old as an anytime goal-scorer this weekend.
Under 2.5 goals has landed in five of Everton’s six home games so the [1.91] for that to happen again has obvious appeal. The United manager believes his team will need perform at their optimum level if they are to take all three-points from Goodison Park. That gets 0-0 and 1-1 running for you.
“He deserved the little happiness of Wednesday’s match”.
Anthony Martial’s injury time victor sealed a 2-1 victory which sent United through to the final and all but ended Roberto Martinez’s chances of staying on in the Everton dugout.
