League Two round-up: Orient stutter as Portsmouth power to the top
Portsmouth moved to the top of Sky Bet League Two as Jayden Stockley’s second goal of the season secured a 2-1 win at Bristol Rovers.
22-year-old Stockley was originally listed as a substitute for the clash, but an injury to Portsmouth’s Adam McGurk in the warm up saw him elevated to the starting XI.
And he believes the players can handle being there to be shot at by the chasing pack.
“We need to pick up some points in the next five games and then see where we are then”.
Stockley bagged his second goal of the campaign to win the game with 19 minutes left.
‘Listen, sooner or later, we will get beaten and they will be right and I will be wrong.
Cook also felt Conor Chaplin’s yellow card for diving was merited. I don’t think there is a whole lot that needs to improve, but we have to stick together and hopefully things will start to go our way.
‘The week has gone well and I was ready.
‘I’m not really interested, if the truth be known.
The striker stretched to score with a volley from a Ben Davies cross on 71 minutes as the impressive visitors gained a deserved success. We were up against a very good Portsmouth team, who are probably the best team in the division by a country mile.
‘It’s good of them to clap us when we are playing well but there were one or two shouts behind me when they equalised. The last time Bristol Rovers got promoted out of this league they were nowhere near it until the final few months of the season.
‘Everything about the club, the fans and the fact everyone is so friendly gave me it.
‘We are under the microscope at Portsmouth because we are such a big club but the lads are doing well and long may it continue’.
