Leah Remini Talks “Repercussions” Of Leaving Scientology
If you haven’t seen Leah Remini: IT’S ALL RELATIVE and aren’t familiar with how serious subjects are dealt with on the show, you’re in for a treat, or a shock depending on how you feel about humor being used as a coping mechanism.
Remini said that if you’re in the church and you refuse to stop communicating, you’re also considered suppressive, which is basically Scientology terminology for “excommunicated”.
In the video released on People.com, Remini talked about how leaving quietly has fewer consequences than being vocal about breaking away from the church.
“I decided that it’d be a good thing for me to start therapy because we all go through things in our lives, and with leaving the Church of Scientology, you know, there’s a lot of feelings, and I really didn’t have an outlet for that”, she says. “You are dependent on the church”, Remini, who was raised in the religion, says in a People clip. She added that she didn’t want Sofia to be taught to disconnect from her if she decided to leave when Sofia was older.
‘She is rewriting history and omits that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled for her and her husband’s ethical lapses.’.
Before her reality show debuted past year, the actress, 45, said during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that leaving the religion seemed to have brought her family closer together.
But the former Dancing With The Stars contestant admits the church was instrumental in forming her as a person: ‘Our decision to leave the organization – it’s not just something you get over. And I was like, “What am I doing?”‘.
