Leaked documents reveal next-generation Chromecast features
The new Chromecast will reportedly be available for a price similar to that of the current model, which retails for $35.
The new streaming device is expected to come in a round shape loaded with improved Wi-Fi, a new feature called Fast Play, support for audio systems, and feed integration with the device’s main screen.
Along with faster Wi-Fi, the new model incorporates Fast Play, which will allow the device to connect quickly, while playing content seamlessly when you press the Cast button. Apart from the proposed Huawei and LG made Nexus devices, another product is also expected to release – the second generation Chromecast. From the leaked photo, it looks like the device will come in three colors – yellow, black and red.
The new Google Chromecast is displayed during a Google special event at Dogpatch Studios on July 24, 2013 in San Francisco, California.
Chromecast Audio is tipped to be part of Google’s as-yet-unofficial September 29th event.
While the images don’t have the best quality, we can tell the device will leave behind its dongle appearance for something circular. There is also a mention of multiroom support which leads us to believe this feature is for those that want to play the audio from the Chromecast on a second set of speakers.
The new update will include a new section titled “What’s On”, which will allow you to see content being offered through various Chromecast-compatible apps. It is also said that this feature will have multi-room support and the ability to mirror Chrome or Android audio.
The new Chromecast is rumored to support 802.11ac WiFi, so you’ll be able to get near-cabled speeds on it without having to buy Google’s Ethernet adapter and plug in an actual cable.
A leaked image has appeared on 9To5 Google, which shows the 2015 Chromecast 2.0 update will take on a completely new design, one that we are not too hot on.
